Make Money With Sponsored Tweets! Is it Ethical?

By

Did you know that you can make money with sponsored tweets? If you did you probably didn’t ask yourself is it ethical! Well I did, I contemplated on that thought about 5 minutes. Not that I went for the money, but the answer was obvious to me. Making money with Twitter is an option for over a year now, well I have personally made money from Twitter long time ago, but that was promoting my own business that landed me a few customers, this is different. Sponsored tweets is sort of a new game in money making business, so far it seems to work, so let’s go over the basic idea of making money on Twitter and the moral side of it, as well as the financial.

Make Money on Twitter with Sponsored Tweets

The idea is very simple, you sign up for Sponsored Tweets account and set up your preferences. What topics you are interested to promote and your wanted price for one tweet. You can set your preferred price minimum at $0.1, not sure about the maximum. There are optimal tweets that go as low as $0.02 per tweet, but from what I have seen you can get a few bucks easy. Some celebrity tweeters like Kim Kardashian get up to $10,000 per tweet. You will have to work quite a lot to achieve that.

Once you set up your account on Sponsored Tweets there will be some general offers anyone can take and then there is the option when a sponsor selects you to promote his ad, the second option pays much better. The thing is that you can set how you want to tweet the ad, which is good, you don’t want to sound all promotional, but you have to make people know that this is an advertisement. And before you know it you can make a few bucks on Twitter. The program is easy to use and it works, I recently tried it and I must admit that I earned almost $5 in less than 3 days, and I only have about 400 followers on Twitter. So if you have a huge fan base this might be worth your while. PS. You can’t apply if your account is less then 2 months old and if you have less than 50 followers.

Moral & Financial Side of Sponsored Tweets

I don’t seem to have any moral issues with sponsored tweets. I mean the fact that you are obligated to place “sponsored”, “ad”, “advertisement” or “brought to you by” next to your tweet makes it clear as day that you are promoting something and getting paid for that. So it’s not like you are misleading anyone, which was enough for me.

On the financial side, there are a few things you need to be concerned about. The first thing you need to do is ask yourself a question, what do you use your Twitter account for? If you are using it to promote your business then I would advise not to use sponsored tweets on that account. The reason is simple, you will be lowering the trust of your customers and fan base and you will be helping your competition. So if you use your twitter account to promote your website, blog or any other online or brick and mortar business, don’t use sponsored tweets. You can create a new account, but it will take time to make a fan base and make something of it. On the other hand if you have an account with a solid fan base that can be used for anything I say go for it.

The only thing you need to make sure is that you have a targeted audience for the topics you chose. There wouldn’t be much point advertising an SEO ad if your followers are interested in music downloads. There is again the internet marketing behind the idea, if you want to earn with Sponsored Tweets or any other money making opportunity you have to think it through and work on it. I never trust a blog or article that simply says create an account here and start making money on auto pilot. There is no such thing, so even with Sponsored Tweets you have to make a plan and stick to it.

Word to the Wise

Again, I advise against using your business twitter account for sponsor tweets, but I have another thing to add to this topic. Go to http://klout.com, this site will analyze your twitter account and give you some great info on your demographics, who follows you, what your audience is interested in, are your tweets grouped and what is the conversion rate of your tweets. You will be given an overall score on the scale of 1 to 100, I got 8, which means that I have influence as much as a plant, but I still managed to earn some cash, but that is because of the fact that my follower base is targeted. This website will give you a good idea of your possible success with Sponsored Tweets. Here is my referral link for Sponsored Tweets again, so give it a try and leave a comment on what you think about this site. I would also love to hear a comment from anyone that already tried Sponsored Tweets.

September 4, edit:

I studied my Klout score and based on that I tweaked my twitter profile a bit, and a week later my profile score went from 8 to 18. Now 18 is still not much, but it's a big jump, and based on what I saw I think I can improve it to be close to 50 in a month. Will post in October my new Klout score. PS. Up to $20 for Sponsored tweets.

Thanks bayoulady :) you might consider promoting your hubs or any other business with Facebook and Twitter, they have a good purpose and great benefits if you know how to use them correctly. Social media marketing is one of the greatest internet marketing tools!

facebook...been there done that..lol!Tweet...am retired,can't afford it.

Yes, I've tried this. but since my followers are only about 100 the top I managed to make in a month was about $15, so to make good money you need to have a great follower base! Over 3-4k followers will do to make a few hundred bucks a month, but like you said, not just any followers, but targeted followers so you can increase the rate of your tweets to a few $.

@bayoulady, what do you mean you can't afford it. Twitter is free, you mean the time?

ZarkoZivkovic 21 months ago

Yeah, it sounds about right VIP, and I'm also not sure what you mean Bayoulady when you say you can't afford it?
