High Quality Content, the Most Important Thing in SEO
79
If you read or heard anything related to SEO you probably heard that content is king. There is a reason why that is so and we will get to it in a bit. From the practical SEO side there are multiple reasons why you need to make high quality content for your site, the most important one is to keep old visitors interested and to gain new ones. High quality content can account for more than 50% of the on page SEO, high quality content is what will separate you from other websites, in both quality and ranks. If you have high quality content links will come by themselves.
Remember one thing, you do not build a site for search engines, you are building a site for people, but don’t worry, by building a high quality content website you are making sure that in addition to visitors the site will be liked by search engines as well.
But it’s not so easy as to say have quality over quantity, which is the goal of practical SEO. The thing about high quality content is that there are no rules or guidelines that will tell you what high quality content is, but let me try and explain that using HubPages as example.
You probably had a hub that is excellent by all standards and as such it had good traffic, but the score wasn’t that high. Why is that? It’s simple, no matter the high quality content the competition was probably too high, and as such your hub was seen as not so good and not so relevant. Where there is high competition there are less chances of your content being seen as quality, so this is my first advice, investigate and find a niche where you can make a point and establish yourself as authority. That will ensure that your site is seen as having high quality content.
There are few ways that you can research the niche for high quality content; the first idea that comes to mind is addressing important questions in your niche. Go over forums and see what questions pop up regularly, answer them and you will gain followers, but do that in a direct and the easiest way for people to understand.
Another trick I picked up on the way is to narrow down your site on a specific topic or niche, a sub niche as some may call it. The more concentrated your topic is the more chances are that you have low competition and that you can be seen as having high quality content. But only that, you will be able to make an authoritative page and website that will be used by others as reference and source. But keep in mind that as long as you copy what other people said or simply rewrite the same things you will never have high quality content, you have to be unique, you have to separate yourself from the others if you want to succeed.
Also, pages and websites that are non-profit will always be favored by search engines. So if you have a website that offers information and advice without too many links to products and services that charge for something you will be liked by Google and other search engines. If you have too many links to products you will be seen as affiliate and that will hurt your rankings and chances of being seen as authority in your field.
The last advice I can give you on your way to creating high quality content is again concentrating on quality over quantity. A small website with a small amount of pages that addresses a certain issue to the core will always of better than a large website with repetition and not so focused content. So, start small but think big.
This is all of my practical SEO advice I have for today, but I can assure you, by following the guidelines and advice written in this hub you can make sure that both visitors and search engines like what they see on your site.
- Practical SEO Principles
According to some experts SEO or search engines optimization is simply a means to an end. Yes, SEO is a way to get your site visible in search engines in this online modern day warfare. But what most people...
- Google, Illuminati and the Cybersheep
We all know the story behind Google; well at least the ones who try to live of it know. The basic idea is we cant do anything without Googles approval or their knowledge. Mess with Google and your earnings will be close to zero. So we have to bow dow
- Professional SEO Service or Do It Yourself SEO?
If you have a website or if you are planning to start one, the question you should be asking yourself is whether to opt for do it yourself SEO or hiring a professional SEO service. There are benefits to both, each has its advantages and disadvantages

I am a writer and a blogger like everyone here on HubPages. Mostly I do SEO related articles and blogs but every now and then I write for myself. That is when the time allows me to; I am a very busy man. Well I am a workaholic after all :)

I really agree with you! A lot of people are trying to create duzens of articles with low (or even no) quality, since they think a lot of content = good. But in fact it is quality that matters, not quantity.
Voted up!
I too believe that creating niche sites is good for SEO, but started out with a bit of variety on one site. Have since started to explore creating some niche sites or WordPress blogs, and it seems this is a great idea. ps, I see 4 Adsense block ads on this page? - 3 within your content and one below the sidebar?
I'm not seeing 4 anymore either - oh dear! Sorry to have made you refresh the page looking for them. I've still sometimes seen them elsewhere though, on other hubs. Oh well, it doesn't seem to be a problem
Thanks, Zarko :)
oh my word, lol, just after posting my comment I noticed the Google Adsense ad at the bottom beneath my comment - an image one, and went up to count the others and they were all images, so definitely no mistaking that they were block ads instead of text link ads, and there were 4. Now, don't start refreshing the page again all day - I'm just glad to tell you I'm not going mad and really did see 4. I don't think it's a problem though (I hope.)
I will go for content, I know all of the three things in your poll are important, but if content wasn't the most important it wouldn't be called the king!
A great hub! The bu,ber one thing in SEO has to be content, as I have said before!
You make a great case for focusing on content first. Loved this line: "...you do not build a site for search engines, you are building a site for people..." I get the niche concept, but haven't had any success targeting one yet.
Really interesting stuff.
I have been trying to get my head around SEO for some time. I stumbled across your hubs as I am on my way out the door so can't wait to come home again to read.
Followed, voted up and tweeted, well worth it!
Nice article man. I like to see hubbers helping each other learn about SEO and its value for their hubs. Specifically when you speak about targeting niches. There is still money to be made on the internet you just have to dominate micro niches these days. Best of luck!
hope you can helps the other how to make money online.....i appreciate your work.
How does Google's algorithm differentiate between high quality and low quality content? I don't see how it can!
Content is King!! If we have good and original content in our websites, we don't need to worry about Google algorithm changes
